Medal: A La Science - Louis Bottee - circa 1894
This classically themed bronze medal pays homage to science as lighting the way and leading humanity.
The obverse includes an allegorical representation of science as a woman seated. A genius carries a branch and holds a shield inscribed: "DUX ET LUX" (Latin: To lead and light). Below exergue is signature: "Louis Bottée".
The reverse depicts a winged sphinx facing left peering into a mirror as the sun rises. Legend above: ""A LA SCIENCE”
Cartouche below is blank. At 8 o'clock signature in script "Louis Bottée".

In extra fine condition with pleasing patina.
